Possibility

2000

Draw my mind into Possibility
Don’t let me
slip back
here, where I am, in this hour.
Tell me about tomorrow.
Teach me that it will come after today.
Teach me that walls fall.
That dark becomes day.
Show me that Possibility
(dancer of air and dream)
is more true
than Reality
(her sad substantial sister,
sitting by the pool,
staring into depth).
Take me away while three pieces of
ice melt away in a glass,
while music plays like a river
I can drown in and live,
while light fades at the window,
flame to ash.
Keep talking me all
the way through in the dark,
when I shiver and burn,
through the dying of this day.

Draw my mind into Possibility.

Don’t let me forget tomorrow
when all I can see is today.
