Dear God,
It is very important that you exist right now, and that you’re benevolent and never go to sleep and can listen to umpty million people all at once because you and I need to discuss a wee favor. Nothing on the order of parting the Red Sea or the sea of reeds or whatever it was. Nothing like the virgin birth. (You and I both know a virgin birth is out. Any sort of birth is out, for that matter, let us make this perfectly clear - it wouldn’t do to get these things mixed up.) This is just a minor medical tweak, but I do need it ASAP, unless Cinderella’s mice are available.
I took the day off to get ready for Catapult Kid’s first visit home tomorrow, you see - stayed until 11:00 p.m. at school last night to make this possible. I vowed to finish restoring that room he left a wreck and to get ready to have a few of his friends over for pizza and a movie tomorrow night. I want his homecoming to be just perfect, even if it’s only for 24 hours. He’s making a big effort to get his life in order, and I want him to know how proud I am of him, and how the slate is clean for a new start at home.
It’s late morning, now, God. The house, excepting his room, is already supposed to be clean by this hour, but here I am flat on my back because sitting up causes seismic instabilty, my head’s broken, and my stomach feels like a rolling sea. God, I know Juanita threw up in a classroom trash can just the other day, but this doesn’t really mean that I have to catch that stomach virus that’s going around right this very minute, does it? Couldn’t that migraine pill I took a couple of hours ago just make everything better, even though it’s not for nausea? We could reschedule a virus for Monday, if ill I must be.
Hallowed be thy name and please, please, pleeeese. Name your price, but I’m not sacrificing children or animals. I have got fresh green beans. If you should choose to bring forth in my back yard glorious fruits like Badger’s, I’d share those, too.
Sincerely,
Your bendy-the-rules-but-heart’s-in-the-right-place Dissident Daughter
